Oak Alley Plantation
Constructed 1839

Jacques Telesphore Roman had this beautiful home built for his bride.  The oak tress were planted many decades earlier by the previous owner of Bon Sejour Plantation in front of a much smaller home.

Jacques Roman was the brother of Andre Roman, twice the Governor of Louisiana.  Andre Bienvenu Roman had a much larger plantation just a few miles upriver called Cabahanoce Plantation, earlier know as Cabahannocer Plantation.  That plantation home was lost to the Mississippi River.
