Jessie Cook Headstone Caddo Parish Shreveport, La. ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. La-Cemeteries & Joann Cook Anderson http://www.la-cemeteries.com/ ********************************************** by Joann Cook Anderson September 12, 2012 I recently discovered that my family had a cemetery on Freewater Street. I was sent a picture of my Great Grandfathers Headstone. I was thrilled to find him. Attached you will find the pictures of what I found last Saturday. Jessie Cook's marker is the only one visible. My husband and I pulled back the vines to get a clear picture. A Cook Family member bought the land in 1869 and sold it in 1912. According to the 1910 census record, James and Julia Cook had been married 40 years and had 8 children with 2 living: Julia (Jr) and Mary. That leaves 6 children supposedly buried in the Cook family cemetery. Also, Julia Jr married to Robert Stephens had been married 8 years and had 4 children with 2 living. Two children supposedly buried at Cook. That's 8 children supposedly buried at Cook Cemetery. Six children have not been verified BUT Jessie Cook Sr and Minnie Cook Laenger are buried at the Cook Family Cemetery. The map I received from Shreveport shows Fuller Center For Housing owns the property. I emailed them and he replied with, they have never seen a Headstone and have no knowledge of a cemetery. My Great Grandfather died 113 years ago and his headstone needs to be placed back where it belongs. And all the others buried there. Mr Jeter is the person I emailed with. Lee A.
