Zachary Taylor has a number of unusually interesting family connections.

Daughter Sarah Knox Taylor married Jefferson Davis in 1835 long before he became the Confederate States President and before her father became U. S. President.  She lived only three months into this marriage.

Son Richard Taylor inherited his father's Louisiana property called Fashion Plantation near Hahnville, Louisiana.  Richard traveled as his father's aide during General Taylor's service during the Mexican War.  Richard became a Confederate General working closely with his once brother-in-law Jefferson Davis.

Son-in-law U.S. Colonel William Howard Bliss, after whom Fort Bliss in Texas is named, was married to oldest daughter Mary Elizabeth Taylor.  Col. Bliss was initially buried in Girod Street Cemetery in New Orleans.
